Fight altitude sickness
Boost-Oxygen

Boost Oxygen Canisters

The BEST way to combat altitude sickness is to use canned oxygen. I’m from the south and struggle with altitude sickness big time (severe migraines, shortness of breath, dizziness, etc.). The only thing that’s helped me is using these oxygen canisters and huffing it throughout the day. They’re travel size so it’s perfect to throw in your backpack. You can buy them on Amazon or at a local grocery store in Frisco, CO.

What To Do In Breckenridge in One Day

Carver's Bike Rentals in Breckenridge, Colorado

Morning: Walk Main Street

For breakfast at Clint’s Bakery & Coffee House, I’d recommend trying their freshly baked cinnamon rolls, scones, or breakfast sandwiches on croissants.

They use high-quality ingredients, and everything is made from scratch daily. Get there early because the baked goods sell out!

Main Street is full of shops, restaurants, and galleries.

Pop into stores like Merigold’s Farmhouse Funk & Junk for an eclectic variety of vintage-style collectibles, or browse the many souvenir shops.

Grab an iced coffee at Mountain View Coffee Bar to fuel your stroll.

Bike Trail Rides in Breckenridge

Head back to the car to grab your day pack. Fill it with the essentials like snacks, water, and sunscreen.

Then, make your way to Carver’s Ski & Bike Rental to rent a bike for the day.

There are several miles of trails in and around the area, so don’t forget to pick up a map.

The Rec Path

I’d tackle the Summit County Recreational Pathway System (or “The Rec Path” for short) first to start things off easily.

It’s a paved path that’s open to bikers, runners, and dog walkers. The path follows the river through Breckenridge and beyond.

It’s more than 38 miles long. Of course, I don’t expect you to ride the trail end to end with only one day to spare.

But it’ll give you a pretty good overview of the town even if you choose to only enjoy it for a few miles.

Tiger Road

For a dirt road experience that still makes for an easy ride and is also great for the family, try out Tiger Road.

It’s a 6.5-mile out-and-back ride that is pretty smooth for the most part and only has an elevation gain of about 170 feet.

Carter Park

More experienced riders will love the steep switchbacks at Carter Park. The initial climb is tough getting uphill, but the trails are awesome and well-maintained.

Afternoon: Explore Peak 8

After a morning of biking, continue the adventure by heading to the base of Peak 8 at Breckenridge Ski Resort.

Here, you can take a trip to higher elevations on the FREE BreckConnect Gondola up to the 11,000-foot summit for breathtaking 360-degree mountain views of the Tenmile Range.

The whole family can enjoy this activity as you glide above the forest for panoramas of mountains, valleys, and lakes before reaching the top.

At the summit, stretch your legs on hiking trails like the Ridge Trail or Sundown Trail.

Breckenridge Ski Resort Summer Activities

The Epic Discovery Pass offers activities like the Gold Runner Alpine Coaster, mini golf, climbing wall, ropes course, gemstone panning, and much more.

Feel the thrill of racing down 2,600 feet of curves, twists, and turns in an open-air coaster cart, or test your skills on the climbing wall’s variety of routes from beginner to expert.

Activity options like this aren’t offered at this ski resort in the winter, so it’s the best time to take advantage of the Epic Discovery Pass, especially if you’re traveling with the entire family.

Eat Lunch At The Top Of Peak 8

When you’re ready for a break, stop by Vista Haus at the summit for pizza, burgers, and cold beer on their outdoor deck. Refuel on hearty pub fare while taking in magnificent vistas.

Other food options include chili, bavarian pretzels, and chicken tenders.

Wrap up lunch and make your way back down on the gondola.

Bike the Riverwalk Center

The Riverwalk Center path runs alongside the river and is a great place to cruise on a bike.

Take a break in the grassy areas to enjoy views of the river, find a spot to lay on the large rocks, and take in the warm sunshine.

Breckenridge Troll

Return your rental bikes and then take a short drive or relaxing walk to the Illinois Creek Trailhead. It’s about a 5-minute car ride or a 20-minute walk from town.

Here, you’ll find the iconic Breckenridge Troll sculpture (also known as “Isak Heartstone”).

Park in the large parking area and follow the signs to the sculpture. The trail is a short, easy path that splits off into other trails if you’d like to explore more.

Pose for fun photos and admire the quirky art installation.

Evening: Dinner and Entertainment

Sauce On The Maggie

For a delicious happy hour and dinner, head to Sauce on the Maggie located near The Village at Breckenridge.

Their creekside patio provides an idyllic spot to unwind over craft cocktails and Italian fare as you watch the sunset over the mountains.

Try their bruschetta and pizzas cooked in an authentic stone oven. I love their pasta dishes too! Yummy!

Breckenridge International Festival of Arts

The Breckenridge International Festival of Arts is a popular annual event held every summer.

It’s a 10-day celebration of adventure, creativity and play.

Events are held in various venues, trails, and parks throughout the festival.

It proudly showcases a mix of music, dance, film, and visual arts of artists who travel from all over the world.

Backstage Theatre

After dinner, walk over to the historic Backstage Theatre.

Catch a lively music performance, comedy show, or entertaining production from Breckenridge’s resident theater company.

Be sure to check their schedule ahead of time for current events.

Ghost Tours

If you’re not easily spooked, the ghost tours are a fun way to learn about Breckenridge’s Wild West history.

Just bring a jacket to deal with the “chill in the air”!

This walking tour takes you to a dozen haunted locations around downtown Breckenridge.

An experienced guide recounts spooky ghost stories and the town’s paranormal past.

Dessert

Finish off the night with crepes for dessert at Crepes a la Cart. Order a sweet or savory freshly-made crepe and relax by the glow of the Blue River.

The perfect ending to an epic Breckenridge adventure!

  • Summers can be even more crowded than winter, so plan to arrive early.
  • If you can, sleep in Breck the night before or at least try to stay in a nearby town like Frisco or Silverthorne. That way, you’ll have a head start and a longer day to enjoy.
  • The WORST time to head to Breck is on Friday afternoon/early evening, and the WORST time to head back to Dever is on Sunday afternoons. The traffic is a nightmare!
  • Plan for a late lunch or early dinner because most happy hours start at 3 pm.
  • Remember that summer in Breckenridge is chilly so be sure to pack a light weight jacket or long sleeve shirt.
